Just a reminder from Mr. Kemp:
This song is not a silly song. Working on a
ship was a very dangerous job, and the men
who worked on those ships had to always be
ready for anything. If one of them had too
much wine with their supper, the other men
would punish him for being a "Drunken Sailor".
This is a very fun song to sing, but for the sailors,
it was sending a message to them. The sailors would
sing this Sea Chantey while doing hard work like
hoisting the main sail or pulling the anchor up.
