Mr. Kemp’s
Spring Orchestra Tips

**Updated April 18th, 2007**

Wow!!! We are nearing our concert and the end of the year!
This has been the most incredible year for our John
Paterson Orchestra. We have the biggest Orchestra
in our school's history!

Here are some more tips for Orchestra:

1. SAY your rhythms first and bow in the air! This helps
when Mr. Kemp does this when you do it in class,
so it will help you at home if you do it in practicing.

2. SING the letters of the notes! Again, it helps
when Mr. Kemp does it. It will help you, too.

3. Practice with a friend once in a while if you can!

4. Read what Mr. Kemp wrote about practicing,
even if you read it earlier this year. (Most important
is that Music does NOT happen by Magic!):

Practice, Practice, Practice!

A baseball player practices baseball.
A soccer player practices soccer.
A basketball player practices basketball.
A dancer practices dance..............................(you get the idea!)

I understand 4th graders are very busy people. They are baseball
players, soccer players, basketball, football, dance, Karate, and
much more. PLUS, they are students, they have friends, they have
families.

Are you also a Violin or Viola or Cello or Bass player?

If you are a Violin Player, you practice the Violin every day.
If you are not practicing every day, you are not really a Violin Player.
Of course the same goes for Viola, Cello, Bass, and all of the band
players, too.

STRIVE for practicing every day. (That means try very hard.)
If you miss once in a while, it's OK! Mr. Kemp knows you are
very busy people.
